Judgment and Prediction: U.S. Withdrawal from Afghanistan Expected to Last until September
Chan Kung

Judging from the current situation, it is estimated that the entire withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan will probably last at least until September, and this operation has actually just begun. The core departments in the United States do not seem to have fully grasped the situation in Kabul up to now. In many cases, the speeches of these officials are considerably reserved, and it appears that after the collapse of the government intelligence network, open source intelligence collection is almost their only channel.

Mark A. Milley, U.S. Army general and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has also admitted that the U.S. military must communicate with the Taliban in order to allow Americans to enter the airport. Milley now attempted to direct the issue to what the United States can do now is to evacuate those who hold American passports, and not others. Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin stated that it is already very difficult to evacuate people who are at the airport, and whether other American visa holders are able to leave would depend on the cooperation of the Taliban.

Most importantly, the withdrawal of the U.S. troops from Afghanistan will continue for a long time. Such a long period of time will prove to be advantageous to the Taliban, whether it is to gain its legitimacy, negotiate favorable conditions, or expand its influence in the world.
