ANBOUND's Observation: Dutch Foreign Minister Resigned over Afghan Issues
Chan Kung
Dutch Foreign Minister Sigrid Kaag has
resigned over her handling of the Afghan evacuation crisis last month. This is
the first foreign minister in a Western country to be criticized and resign
because of the Afghanistan issue. Although the U.S. State Department Antony Blinken
has been more severely criticized by the Congress and society, he has not
resigned, instead he has come forward to defend himself.
The British First Secretary of State and
Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab was also widely criticized, but the criticism
was geared toward himself, not toward the Great Britain. In fact, the British Secretary
of State for Defence and the military actually won praises in the evacuation
operation. Raab on the other hand, was condemned because of his attitude.
The temptation of power is common in the
West. The grow of the wealth of American politicians is a clear indication of
this. Barrack Obama's fortune rose from USD 30 million to 70 million after he
became President. Clinton's current fortune is USD 120 million. Their fortune
has increased because of their involvement in politics.
