Dr. Wei Hongxu, Senior Economist, ANBOUND

Amid the unprecedented changes sweeping the world today, ANBOUND held the 2024 Trends Symposium to provide an in-depth exploration of geopolitical shifts and macroeconomic landscapes. This marks the fifth Trends Symposium independently organized by ANBOUND, and notably, the first to feature both online and offline participation. The symposium was held on January 5, 2024, in Chengdu, China.

Under the theme "Focus on Reality, Seeking Hope", this event came at a critical juncture. The COVID-19 pandemic has persisted for three years, exerting immense downward pressure on the world's economy. Simultaneously, conflicts such as the Russia-Ukraine war and the intensification of conflicts in the Middle East contribute to heightened power struggles among major nations, impacting global governance and international order. China, too, faces formidable challenges, including weakened economic growth drivers and increasing demands on livelihoods. The event aims to offer a deep analysis of opportunities and risks by delving into perspectives on geopolitics and macroeconomics, offering crucial insights for informed decision-making in China's pursuit of high-quality development.

Mr. Kung Chan, ANBOUND's founder, provided an online keynote speech on his views on the trends and developments, both globally and within China, in the past three decades. This is followed by panel discussions hosted by ANBOUND's senior researcher Mr. He Jun, with ANBOUND's members, and senior officers and experts from Chinese and foreign enterprises. In the following section, Mr. Jia Zhanfeng, the co-office deputy director of Yangtze River Delta G60 and a long-time project collaboration with ANBOUND, shared his case study of the Yangtze River Delta G60 sci-tech corridor.

After the lunch break, Dr. Wei Hongxu, senior economist at ANBOUND, provided a detailed analysis of the slowdown in the growth of the Chinese economy under the backdrop of de-globalization, particularly in aspects like property, local debts, financial risks, and possible strategies to cope with such challenges. Mr. He Jun, then continued his discussion on the industrial development and market opportunities under increased uncertainties and risks.

This event ended with the questions and answers section by the panelists.
