China's Trade Negotiations in 2014 Focus on Neighboring FTZs

China's diplomatic focus has been gradually switched towards neighboring countries since leadership transition last year. On February 18, MOFCOM spokesman Shen Danyang said that China’s trade negotiations will be focusing on neighboring free trade zones, including China-South Korea FTZ, China-Japan-South Korea FTZ and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). ANBOUND think tank scholars stated that TPP and TTIP negotiations are anticipated to achieve breakthrough in 2014. China needs to be well prepared to the new situation of international trade and investment. Besides that, sealing free trade agreements with neighboring countries is also a crucial step.
