Beijing's Challenges in Decentralization
ANBOUND

Recently, there is a rumor that Beijing will decentralize part of its industries to Baoding, a city in Hebei Province that close to Beijing, with the aim to upgrade Baoding into China's second political center. Although the rumor is without basis but it is still noteworthy. ANBOUND research team has been providing recommendations on Beijing’s urban development over the years such as the government should focus on Beijing’s public rail transport, strengthen the static traffic management and pay attention to the urban carrying capacity when it comes to population and economic development. However, our research findings and early warnings always proven to be true via negative cases. Beijing is a complicated mega city whereby both the formation and disappearance of economic development have its own rules. Simple decentralization on administration rather than city resources will certainly hit the urban economy.
